CAT Exam: Everything You Need To Know From Application To Admission


Common Admission Test (CAT)

It is a highly competitive entrance exam conducted in India. It is primarily used for admissions to post-graduate management programs (MBA) offered by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top business schools across India.

For the registration process, the candidates need to follow the following process

    • The candidates need to visit the official website and select new candidate registration.
    • The basic details need to be filled in.
    • After submission, an OTP is sent for verification of the registration.
    • Once the verification is complete candidates will receive a unique ID and password to log in on their registered email and phone number.
    • Then, the candidates need to fill in the details in the application form.
    • The candidates need to select the test cities for appearing in the exam

Common Admission Test (CAT) Eligibility

    • The candidate should be a graduate with a minimum of 50% marks for general and 45% for SC, ST, and PWD candidates.
    • Candidates in the final year of graduation can also apply.

Common Admission Test (CAT) Exam Details

The exam is held in three sessions (VARC, DILR, and QA), each lasting 120 minutes. Three marks are given for written answers, one mark is deducted for every wrong answer, and there is no negative marking for non-MCQs and skipping questions. All questions do not need to be answered. There are 66 questions in total, with a total mark of 198.

Common Admission Test (CAT) Admit Card –

The admit card is expected to be released in October 2024. Candidates can download it from the official website using their login credentials. They need to carry the admit card during the exam. The admit card contains the candidate's name, time slot, category, registration number, exam center instructions, signature, declaration form, and photo.

Common Admission Test (CAT) Syllabus –

Quantitative aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) are all covered in the syllabus. Reading comprehension is covered in great detail in the VARC. DILR includes sets of questions based on various charts, graphs, and other forms of data presentation. QA is focused on mathematics.

Common Admission Test (CAT) Result

The results will be available on the official website. No official date has been announced for the declaration of the result, which will be valid until December next year.

There is no centralized admission counseling. All IIMs have their selection process. Once the results are released, all the B Schools and IIMs release their shortlisted candidates for further rounds.
