UPSC Civil Service
Union Public Service Commission or UPSC is a competitive examination conducted across the India by the Civil Services Examination (CSE). The main aim for the conduction of Civil Services Examination is for the recruitment of higher officials. Higher officials includes Indian Administration Services (IAS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS) and Indian Police Services (IPS).
UPSC comprises of three parts:
- Preliminary Examination
- Mains Examination
- Personality Test Interview
The candidate who makes up to this examination goes through 32 hours of examination. Following are the criteria for the appearing candidates in the examination:

Educational Qualification:
The appearing candidates must have one of the following as a minimum qualification:
- Either a graduation or equivalent degree from Central, State or a Deemed University or correspondence or distance education degree
- Either a degree from an Open University or a qualification degree from a recognized by the Government of India as mentioned above.
The listed candidates are also eligible for the examination but must submit the eligibility proof from a qualified authority of their Institute/ University at Mains Examination and the failing ones will straight away will not be allowed to appear. The criteria are:
- The candidates who have passed the exam of MBBS degree but are not into internships.
- The candidates who have a degree from a private institution or from any foreign university which is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities are also eligible for the examination.
- The candidates who have passed the final exam of ICAI, ICSI and ICWAI are also eligible for appearing in the examination.
- The appearing candidates from the above mentioned points will cost them educationally qualified enough to satisfy the points.
Age
The candidates should lie in the age group of 21 to 32 (for the General category candidates) on the 1st of August of the examination year. Mentioned below are the age restrictions for the other caste reservation candidates.
- The upper limit for Other Backward Castes (OBC) and Scheduled Castes(SC) and Scheduled Tribes(ST) is 35, 37 and 37 respectively.
- The upper limit for the Defence Personnel disabled in operations during hostilities is 40 years.
- • The candidates belonging to ex-servicemen (Commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs) who relinquished military services for at least 5 years on 1st August on the appearing year and have been released 1. On assignment completion within one year from 1st August of the year of exam otherwise will be not allowed to appear on the behalf of misconduct or inefficiency. Or 2. Attributable of Physical disabilities of the Military Services.
- The upper limit of the candidates belonging to the category of PwDis 37 years.
- The candidates holding the Domicile of Jammu and Kashmir from 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989, the upper limit is 32 years.
Exam Highlights
UPSC Prelims comprises of two papers – 1.General Studies I 2.CSAT (General Studies Paper-II). Score obtained in the General Studies Paper are generally used as a measure to qualify the Prelim’s cut-off. One third of the marks would be deducted for marking the wrong answer whereas no marks will be deducted on passing off the questions. The points given below should be considered for UPSC CSE MAINS Examination 2022:
- Hence, marks will be calculated from 1750 of total marks.
- At least 25% of marks should be obtained in each paper.
- Candidates are asked to write only in the sheets provided by the Authorities. No extra sheets will be distributed thereafter.
