What is a B.Tech Mechanical Engineering?

Mechanical engineering is the study of physical machines that involve force and movement. The course for working professionals is a part-time course which is usually of 3 to 3.5 years duration. It is a lateral entry program. It has 6 to 7 semesters, depending upon the duration of the course. The course provides a strong foundation in contemporary technologies. A variety of subjects are included, such as thermodynamics, mechanics, fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials and machine design, heat transfer and power generation, control systems and robotics, etc.

The course is conducted in a work-integrated manner. The classes are conducted either on weekends or in the evening. Faculty members and industry experts usually conduct the lectures. The project in the final year enables the working professionals to apply concepts and techniques learned during the course. Along with theoretical studies, practical classes are also conducted. After completion of each semester, exams are held. Those who enroll in the course are continually evaluated. The average fee ranges from Rs 200000 to Rs 300000.

The course is offered in various colleges across India under WILP. The Work Related Learning Program (WILP) is an initiative taken up by many colleges that seek to provide higher education to working professionals through correspondence while continuing their work. It is a way to complete technical education while continuing work.

    • Fill out the application form available on the website of the chosen college/university
    • Payment of application fee
    • Take a printout of the application form

Once the working professionals are selected, the college/university will send the enrollment number and confirmation of admission over mail.
