Your Ultimate Guide to JEE Main

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is one of the most prestigious engineering entrance exams, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It consists of two papers. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions/Universities funded or recognized by participating state governments. Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch. and B. Planning courses in the country. JEE Main is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs.

JEE Main Application Process –

    • Candidates need to visit the official website of JEE Main and click on the registration link. They will then need to provide basic details like name, email ID, mobile number, and date of birth to register
    • After registration, the candidates should log in using the credentials received and complete the application form.
    • The candidates will need to upload scanned images of their recent passport-sized photograph and signature according to the specifications provided on the website.
    • The next step is to pay the application fee.
    • After a successful fee payment, a confirmation page will be generated. Download and print this page for records.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria –

    • Candidates who have appeared for their Class 12th or equivalent examination.
    • Candidates should have achieved a minimum of 75% marks in Class 12 or be in the top 20 percentile.
    • There is no age limit for the candidates.

Candidates should ensure that they meet the eligibility requirements before filling out the online application form for JEE Main 2024. Make sure you meet all of the qualifying conditions by carefully reading the information booklet. To be eligible for the JEE Main exam, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Age Requirement (Birthdate):

            • Go out to the "Apply for JEE Main Exam 2024" page to apply for the JEE Main Exam 2024.
            • Candidates who are SC/ST/PWD, on the other hand, are eligible for a 5-year age relaxation if they were born on or after October 1, 1992.
            • The date of birth on the candidate's certificate of upper secondary education (10th) shall be considered.

Eligibility Requirements:

              • Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree. passed a recognised board/10+2 institute's (Intermediate) or equivalent exam
              • The qualifying exam must include physics, chemistry, and mathematics as necessary courses.
              • Those who take the qualifying exam will be considered as well.
              • Candidates who have successfully finished three-year diploma programmes will also be considered.
              • Number of Attempts Specified
              • The maximum number of attempts allowed for JEE Main is three. If a candidate fails to pass JEE main on the first try, he or she will be required to sit the next two exams.

JEE Main Admit Card –

The e-Admit Cards are issued provisionally to the candidates through the NTA website, subject to the fulfillment of the eligibility conditions and receipt of the prescribed application fee by the NTA. The candidate has to download the admit card from the NTA website. The candidate will appear in the examination at the given center on the date and shift/timing as indicated in their e-admit card.

JEE Main Exam Details –

The JEE Main exam is typically conducted twice a year, in January and April.

Mode of exam –

    • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) in "Computer Based Test (CBT)" mode only.
    • Paper 2A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in "Computer Based Test (CBT)" mode only, and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen and paper (offline) mode, to be attempted on a drawing sheet of A4 size.
    • Paper 2B (B. Planning): Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode only.

Languages

The exam is conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The option of language for the question paper should be exercised carefully while filling out the application form online, and it cannot be changed at a later stage.

    • Paper 1: B.E./B.Tech - Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry (3 hours duration)
    • Paper 2A: B. Arch - Part-I: Mathematics, Part-II: Aptitude Test, Part-III: Drawing Test (3 hours duration)
    • Paper 2B: B. Planning - Part-I: Mathematics, Part-II: Aptitude Test, Part-III: Planning-Based Questions (3-hour duration)
    • Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) both – Duration: 3 hours, 30 minutes

Total Marks

    • Paper 1: B.E./B.Tech. - 300
    • Paper 2A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) – 400

Marking Scheme

For Multiple Choice Questions

    • Correct Answer or the Most Appropriate Answer - Four marks
    • Incorrect Answer - Minus one mark
    • Unanswered or marked for review: no mark
    • If more than one option is found to be correct, then four marks will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
    • If all options are found to be correct, then four marks will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
    • If none of the options is found correct, a question is found to be wrong, or a question is dropped, then full marks will be awarded to all candidates who have appeared, irrespective of whether the question has been attempted or not.

For Numerical Value Questions –

    • Correct Answer: Four marks
    • Incorrect Answer: Minus one mark
    • Unanswered/Marked for Review: No mark
    • If a question is found to be incorrect or the question is dropped, then four marks will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question. The reason could be human error or a technical error.

JEE Main Result Declaration –

The results are based on the final answer key declared. The NTA displays the recorded responses and question papers attempted by the candidates on the NTA website prior to the declaration of the result or NTA score.

JEE Main Seat Allocation Process –

Candidates are offered admission based on their choices and the All India Rankings of JEE Main through a seat allocation process.
