Crucial Insights into NEET MDS Exam: A Primer


National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) MDS

NEET MDS is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination which is a single entrance examination for admission to various MDS Courses. No other entrance examination, either at the state or the Institution level, shall be valid for entry to MDS courses. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducts NEET MDS annually.

Candidate appearance in NEET-MDS does not confer any automatic rights to secure an MDS seat. The Dental Council of India, State/Central Government, individual universities, medical/dental institutions, and medical fitness requirements must all be met in order for a candidate to be selected and admitted to a postgraduate seat in any dental institution. Candidates found to be ineligible at any stage are not permitted to appear in the examination and counselling.

NEET MDS Application Process

    • All candidates applying for NEET MDS need to create an online profile to generate a User ID and Password. This User ID and Password will allow the candidate to log in as an applicant for NEET MDS for that particular session and register an online application.
    • Applications can only be submitted online through the NBEMS website.
    • A candidate can submit the NEET MDS application form only once.
    • Candidates' applications containing false or fabricated records are considered, and such candidates are debarred from appearing in future examinations of NBEMS.
    • Submission of an incomplete online application form not in accordance with prescribed instructions invites rejection of the application.
    • Along with the application form, the candidates need to pay the registration pay.
    • An acknowledgement email is sent to the registered email ID confirming the submission of an application by the candidate.
    • The candidates are given an opportunity to edit the information filled in the application.
    • Candidates who fail to submit duly completed applications with requisite documents and/or fail to rectify the deficiencies in their applications by the last date prescribed for rectification are declared ineligible.

NEET MDS Eligibility Criteria

    • A valid Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from an Indian institution or college is required of the candidate.
    • The candidates hold either permanent or interim registration with the State Dental Council.
    • The candidates must have undergone a compulsory rotatory internship of a year in an approved/recognized dental college.

NEET MDS Eligibility Criteria For Foreign Nationals

The Dental Council of India should recognize the candidate's basic Dental Qualification equivalent to BDS.

NEET MDS Exam:

    • NEET MDS is conducted in a single day & single session as a computer-based examination.
    • The exam syllabus shall be of the BDS standard and shall cover all the subjects taught during the BDS course as prescribed in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007, as amended from time to time.
    • The examination shall be a multiple-choice questions test delivered using a computer network (CBT) as per the prescribed scheme.
    • Negative marking is there for incorrect questions.

NEET MDS Admit Card

The admit cards are available online at the NBEMS website. Candidates are informed through SMS/Email alerts and website notices regarding the availability of the admit card on the NBEMS website. Admit cards are not sent to the candidates by Post/Email. The admit card can be downloaded from NBEMS website. Once it is downloaded, the candidates need to affix their recent passport-size photograph. The exact address and location of the test centres are indicated on the admit card.

NEET MDS Test Day

Candidates cannot carry any stationery item like textual material (printed or written), notes, Plastic Pouch, Calculator, Pen, Writing Pad, Pen Drives, Eraser, etc., any electronic device like Mobile Phone, Bluetooth, Earphones, Microphone, Pager, wrist watch/Health Band, Calculator, Electronic Pen/ Scanner etc., all ornaments like bracelets, Ring, Earrings, Nosepin, Chain/Necklace, Pendants, Necklace with pendants, Badge, Brooch etc., Other items like Wallet, Goggles, Handbags, Belt, Cap etc.

The following documents need to be brought during the exam –

    • Printed copy of Barcoded/QR Coded Admit card with their photograph pasted on it.
    • Any one of the documents: PAN Card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card

NEET MDS Result

The result for NEET MDS is released on the NBE website. Candidates can download their score card from the NBEMS website. They need to use their login credentials. The validity of results is for that particular academic year.

NEET MDS Tiebreaker

    • A candidate with fewer incorrect responses in the overall paper (Part A & B) will be placed in a better merit position.
    • Candidates obtaining a higher score in Part B of the question paper will be placed in a better merit position.
    • Older candidates will be placed in better merit positions.

NEET MDS Merit List

A merit list is prepared based on rank. The candidate's rank represents their total merit standing out of all the applicants that took the NEET MDS for that particular year.
