The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralized national-level entrance exam conducted annually. It is administered for admission to undergraduate (LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) programs offered by prestigious national law universities (NLUs) and other participating law colleges across India. In the year 2008, this exam was 1st introduced as a centralized entrance examination for admission to the National Law Schools or Universities. The test is taken after completion of 12th to integrated undergraduate degrees in Law and after graduation in an undergraduate law program for Master of Laws (LLM) programs.

Candidates need to apply online for CLAT through the official website. During registration, candidates also create a login ID and password, which they will use for subsequent stages of the application process. After registration, candidates need to fill out the CLAT application form. During the application process, they need to upload certain documents. After filling out the application form and uploading the required documents, candidates need to pay the application fee. Once the application form is submitted, the candidates receive the application number.

For the undergraduate program (LLB), candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum percentage prescribed by the participating institutions.

The CLAT exam is conducted on a rotational basis by the NLUs.
