1. SPU Conducts an Admissions Campaign Across Sikkim

Sikkim Professional University (SPU) recently conducted an admissions campaign in many places in Sikkim. The admissions campaign was carried out in Namchi, Rangpoo, Singtam, Kaligpoo, Gangtok, Jorethang District, and Town.

The college authorities distributed calendars and pamphlets to the locals as a part of the admissions campaign. The main aim was to create awareness about the admissions process and the courses being offered at the university. As a part of the campaign, the college authorities visited various shops, hospitals, and clinics. Even the locals on the roads were given calendars and pamphlets.

Admissions for various courses are underway in 2024–25. Applications are invited from eligible students. Admissions are open for courses such as B.Sc (Nursing) (P.B.), B.SC (Nursing), GNM, D.Pharm, B.Pharm, B.SC (MLT), DMLT, BPT, BA/MA (Tourism), BA/MA (English), BA/MA (Geo.), B.Com/M.Com, BCA, MCA, BBA, MBA, B.Sc/M.Sc (Agri.), B.Sc/M.c (Evn.Sc.), BTTM/MTTM, B.Sc/M.Sc (Biotech.), and B.Sc/M.Sc (Micro.  2. A 5-Day Workshop-Cum-Training Program Organized at SPU

A five-day workshop-cum-training program was organized at Sikkim Professional University (SPU) in collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) Delhi, MHA, and the Govt. of India. The topic was “Enhancing Human Capacity to Deal with Public Health Emergencies during Disaster Situations Like Earthquakes, Landslides, and Flash Floods in Sikkim.”

The program was completed under the guidance of Prof. Surya Prakash, HoD, GMRD, CBRN, NIDM, Delhi. Renowned experts in the fields of disaster management, emergency response, public health, urban planning, and environmental science delivered lectures with a major focus on emergency operational plans, preventive measures for pandemics, the role of pharmacists in disaster response, transfer techniques in physiotherapy, basic life support (BLS), community preparedness, and disaster resilience.

Further, as a part of the workshop, a group of participants visited the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology, Ranipool, Gangtok, under Central Agriculture University Imphal. The main purpose was to witness demonstrations of fog water harvesting and the role of mobile-based advisory systems. The visit provided valuable insights for the participants.

During the interaction, Prof. H. S. Yadav, Vice Chancellor at Sikkim Professional University, shared that through this workshop-cum-training program, various faculty members of various colleges at Sikkim Professional University have gained valuable input on the skill of minimizing the risk of disastrous situations.
