Introduction

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is an agriculture university located in Ludhiana, Punjab, and was built on October 17, 1962. It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. This agriculture university in Ludhiana is one of the oldest agricultural universities in India. It plays an important role in developing agricultural education and research. A significant role in the green revolution during the 1960s and 1970s was played by the university, contributing to significant increases in crop production and food security in the country.

Modeled on the pattern of Land Grant Colleges in the USA, Punjab Agricultural University is committed to imparting agriculture education. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various disciplines of agriculture and courses in community science . The university has six constituent colleges, eight research centers, and 18 Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The university's contribution to the overall growth in agriculture and HR development has given it the status of the prime engine of development in Punjab and one of the best agricultural universities in Asia.

Admission


The PAU admissions process differs course-wise. Some courses are based on an entrance exam, and some are based on merit.

    • EligibilityOnly those candidates who are residents of Punjab or the Union Territory of Chandigarh are eligible to seek admission to all undergraduate, master's, and diploma programs except for MBA, M.Tech, and self-supporting programs. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in the current year can also apply for courses.

    • Application ProcessThe admissions process at PAU begins with the application process. The candidates can apply online at the official website of the PAU within the specified dates announced every year. They are also required to pay the prescribed fee for each entrance test. Candidates who apply for multiple entrance tests are required to pay an additional fee for each. The candidates should have a valid email ID to fill out the application form. Clicking on the submission button is necessary after completing the application form. The application submission process is considered complete when the candidates click on the verification link, which is sent to their registered email address. Once the verification is confirmed, they have to pay the application fee, which can be paid both online and offline.

    • Admit CardAfter applying, candidates can download their admit cards for the courses whose admission is based on the entrance exam from the official website.

    • Process FollowedPAU conducts its entrance exam for most undergraduate and postgraduates programs. Admission to PhD programs is based on all documents being verified at the time of admission to India. Courses like the Diploma in Agriculture are merit-based. The verification of documents is only done at the time of counseling. It is necessary to participate in the counseling and document verification processes as per schedule. Those who do not participate in the counseling and document verification are not considered for seat allotment.

    • Seat AllotmentSeats are allotted rank- or merit-wise, considering the candidate's choice or priority of program while participating in the counseling or document verification.

    • Admission ProcessAll newly admitted candidates are required to submit their original certificates or testimonials to the concerned dean at the time of counseling, document verification, or interview.
