Introduction

Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) is an institute located in Allahabad. It is the first institute in Asia to offer agriculture courses. Dr. Sam Higginbottom established it as the Allahabad Agricultural Institute in 1910. Dr. Sam Higginbottom was an American missionary and agricultural expert. He opened the institute with the aim of improving agricultural practices and education in India.

Alumni achievements include those of notable scientists, geneticists, and agricultural engineers. It is often referred to as the originator of the green revolution in India. The campus is divided into clusters of constituent schools and separate blocks for administration. The teaching and research faculties include highly qualified professionals trained in specialized areas of agriculture, science, and technology.

SHUATS provides ample infrastructure for various research initiatives. The Directorate of Research is responsible for guiding, coordinating, and implementing research activities. The teaching and research faculty are trained in specialized areas of agriculture, sciences, and technology. They are involved in both basic and applied research in their respective disciplines. Many national and international research institutions and MNCs have shown their interest in conducting research in areas of mutual interest.

It has established a Career Planning and Counseling Center, which takes care of the placement activities. Soft skills and entrepreneurial training, summer internships, and career counseling are provided to students. During career counseling, students gain insight into exploring careers and planning for the future. The university is connected with industrial establishments, corporate houses, businesses, etc. These establishments conduct campus drives and select students across various courses.

Courses

The academic programs at SHUATS are organized into six faculties, which include agriculture, engineering and technology, science, theology, management, humanities and social sciences, and health sciences, which consist of 15 constituent schools.

Admission

Students are required to fill out a common online application form for all academic courses, which is available on the university website. Before applying, students should check the eligibility criteria for the course they are applying for. Eligibility criteria vary from course to course.

Admission process to various diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses in agriculture, B.Pharm., and D.Pharm. are granted on the basis of merit obtained from the SHUATS Online Entrance Test (SOET) and merit-based offline counseling. For the rest of the courses, admissions are granted through open online counseling. The SOET is conducted as a computer-based online entrance test, either in different online test centers across the country or remotely proctored online entrance tests.

The counseling process for SOET-based courses is conducted for students whose names are on the merit list. Once the documents and eligibility are verified, the seats are allotted strictly on the basis of merit and seat availability. For the courses that are granted admission through open online counseling, the admission process is carried out through an open online counseling portal. The students need to select the desired course and upload the documents needed.

Once the documents are verified, an admission letter or provisional admission letter is issued. Once the letter is issued, the students need to pay the fee online. Before the commencement of the classes, the provisionally admitted students report to the Office of the Registrar for physical verification of the documents. The eligibility is checked, the respective admissions are confirmed, and an identity card (ID) is issued.
