Introduction

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER), run by the Government of India, is one of India's leading medical institutions. The Government of India laid the foundation for a new medical college in 1956 and inaugurated a hospital in 1964. An Act of Parliament in 2008 declared JIPMER, Puducherry, an "Institution of National Importance." The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences is a full-time, 4-year course with 3.5 years of theory and practical classes, as well as 6 months of compulsory internship. All other BSc Allied Health Sciences courses are full-time (4 years course with 3 years of theory & practical classes and 1 year of compulsory internship.
