Following the announcement of the entrance exam results, KNRUHS prepares a merit list based on the exam scores. Those whose names are there in the merit list are called for the counselling process. Before the counselling process begins, the candidates must complete the choice filling process, which involves selecting the affiliated colleges under this university where they wish to pursue their chosen course.

The university conducts the counselling process primarily in four rounds (round 1, round 2, mop-up, stray vacancy). Round 2 fills the seats that remain vacant after round 1. The mop-up round (round 3) fills the seats that were vacant in round 2, while the stray vacancy (round 4) fills the seats from the mop-up round. During the counseling process, the candidates must have their documents verified. Seats are allotted based on the choices filled, availability of seats, and verification of documents.

To secure their seats at the college, the selected candidates must complete the admissions process and pay the academic fee. Candidates who are dissatisfied with their allocated college have the option to apply for an upgrade in the subsequent round and reappear for counselling.
